Let’s Talk Floors: Pretty and Fresh Flooring Options

My biggest lesson learned from my recent office makeover?  Good flooring makes ALL the difference.

I originally had this utilitarian carpet (that makes me want to cry every time I look at it!).  You can glimpse the scene of the crime here:

Okay, let me just say that I wasn’t in a position ($$$) to put down new wall-to-wall carpet (or install hardwood floors – wouldn’t THAT have been amazing?!).  So, I had to be creative and clever.

I started by choosing super sturdy FLOR tiles as my base (in Suit Yourself in Linen), which I just laid right over the old carpet (it doesn’t get easier than that).

And then for the “cherry on top” I layered an oatmeal colored cowhide rug on the diagonal.

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you already know that I love layering rugs.  They bring texture and warmth in ways that a plain wall to wall carpet simply can’t.

I revisited Cow Hides International for this cowhide (I first discovered them when I was searching for my perfect faux zebra rug, which you can read all about here).

I love this company because it’s a lovely, family-owned company in Oklahoma with great customer service.  And I love their prices.  I’ve used them a few times for my client projects and I’ve always been pleased.

At first I wasn’t even going to touch the floors.  What a mistake that would have been!  Turns out, choosing something new and pretty made a world of difference.  It’s my biggest lesson learned from this makeover project.

Stay tuned for next time… I’m going to talk through what to put on those office walls.

[Disclosure: Cowhides International gifted product for this post. But rest assured, regardless of this I believe in their product and would still recommend them.]
